A behind the scenes peek at Trenannick transformations this season

Improving Comfort & Sustainability: A Behind-the-Scenes Seasonal Update

As our season winds down, things certainly don’t slow down here at Trenannick. In fact, it’s quite the opposite! The “big boy toys” have been back on site, kicking off some of our biggest projects yet.

The 6ft Wall, the Ditch… and a Lot of Mud

First up: the mammoth task of demolishing the 6ft x 45ft farmyard wall and restoring the old drainage ditch beyond it. It’s been a serious job, but the payoff is huge—better drainage for the whole estate and for the neighbouring field below.

And now that the wall has gone? You’ll enjoy far-reaching views straight from the cottages across the valley and all the way up to Warbstow Bury. Totally worth the mess!

Phase III: Double Glazing Progress

A massive thank you to the team from North Cornwall Glazing, who braved some truly wild weather during Phase III of our glazing project this month. Working at impressive heights, they replaced the original single-glazed French doors and sitting room window at Beech Cottage, and installed a new front door and double-bedroom window at Ash Cottage.

This phase means all front-facing windows and turn-key doors are now complete—and the views from the upstairs rooms? Simply stunning.

And from my point of view… weekly window cleaning just got MUCH easier. No more varnishing every spring! Happy days indeed.

Phase IV—“The Finale”—is already in the pipeline, with four bathroom and kitchen windows left to tackle. Once finished, both the heating and the log burners should get a well-deserved break too.

A New Guest Laundry

It’s official: we’ve built a dedicated guest laundry room! Free to use, open 24/7, and ready for action.

Guests staying in Pond Meadow and Little Leighs will also now find dishwashers in their kitchens. We mentioned the laundry plans in a recent blog… and we’re delighted to say it’s now fully operational. Every time I see it, I’m reminded of My Beautiful Laundrette!

The Roundhouse Refresh

A little cosy upgrade for The Roundhouse: we’ve swapped the two leather recliners for a soft 2-seater sofa and armchair, added some mood lighting, and the feedback so far has been wonderful. It’s amazing what a few tweaks can do.

Tree Surgery & Storm Aftermath

The recent storms took their toll on a few of our trees, so professional tree surgeons have been in to make everything safe again. Sadly, several ash trees in the play area had to come down due to ash die-back and large overhanging branches. Never a decision we take lightly, but safety always comes first—especially around the swings.

Chicken Run: A Fresh Start

Many of you will know that we lost our entire brood to Mr Fox earlier this year—every hen and even our beloved silkies, all in one afternoon. We were heartbroken, and we know many guests missed them just as much as we did.

We decided to take a season off from chickens, partly to deter foxes and partly because of the ever-changing bird-flu restrictions. But here’s the good news: we’ve hatched a plan! A fully enclosed chicken pen is being built inside the alpaca paddock, and we’re determined to welcome a brand-new brood of hens and silkies next spring.  The chickens used to bully our cats – not the other way around!

And Finally… the Festive Rush Begins

I think that just about brings you up to date with life at Trenannick.

As for me, I’d better crack on with putting up all the Christmas trees and decorations in all the cottages—our festive guests will be arriving before we know it!
